If you find yourself in Altenau, the Orchidee Altenau Bed & Breakfast is a cozy haven that strikes a balance between comfort and value. I trekked from Clausthal-Zellerfeld to this charming B&B, and after that uphill hike, I truly appreciated the warm and welcoming atmosphere that awaited. Our room on the third floor boasted a stunning view of the forest-a perfect backdrop for a morning coffee from our spacious balcony. The bed was comfortable, complemented by electric blankets and good heating options, ensuring we stayed warm during chilly nights. The downstairs communal area featured a fireplace that added to the cozy ambience. Breakfast was a solid affair with a variety of options, and we enjoyed pleasant conversations with the friendly hosts who were knowledgeable about local hiking trails. Just a short walk away, there were several restaurants, including a lovely Greek place, and a bakery whose aromas alone could lure anyone. For a low-cost stay that doesn't skimp on comfort, Orchidee is worth considering, especially if you love nature and hiking. Trust me, you'll leave feeling recharged and happy about your choice.
